Windows Installation¶
Install Gremia Shell on Windows 10/11 using the NSIS installer.
System Requirements¶
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 (1903+) or Windows 11 |
| Architecture | x86_64 (64-bit) |
| RAM | 4 GB |
| Disk Space | 200 MB |
| Runtime | WebView2 (bundled with Windows 11; auto-installed on Windows 10) |
| Network | HTTPS outbound to api.gremia.io |
Download¶
Download the latest .exe installer from the Releases page.
The file is named Gremia-Shell_x.y.z_x64-setup.exe, where x.y.z is the version number.
Installation Steps¶
1. Run the installer¶
Double-click the downloaded .exe file. The NSIS installer guides you through:
- License agreement — Review and accept the license terms
- Install location — Default:
C:\Program Files\Gremia Shell - Start menu shortcut — Creates a "Gremia Shell" entry
- Desktop shortcut — Optional checkbox
2. WebView2 runtime¶
The installer checks for the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime:
- Windows 11: Already included; no action needed
- Windows 10: The installer downloads and installs WebView2 automatically
Offline installation
If the machine lacks internet during install, download the WebView2 standalone installer from Microsoft beforehand.
3. First launch¶
After installation, launch Gremia Shell from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
- Sign in — Enter your Gremia account credentials (email + password + optional MFA)
- Select a manifest — Choose an existing manifest or paste a manifest ID
- Connect — The Shell establishes a WebSocket tunnel to Gremia Cloud
Auto-Updater¶
Gremia Shell includes a built-in auto-updater powered by Tauri's update plugin:
- Checks for updates every 6 hours in the background
- Displays a notification when a new version is available
- One-click download and install — the app restarts automatically
You can also check manually via Settings > Check for Updates.
Update mechanism
Updates are delivered as signed NSIS installers downloaded from the GitHub Releases endpoint. The updater verifies the signature before applying.
Firewall Configuration¶
Gremia Shell requires outbound access on the following ports:
| Destination | Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
api.gremia.io |
443 | HTTPS | REST API + WebSocket tunnel |
*.supabase.co |
443 | HTTPS | Authentication |
No inbound ports need to be opened.
Uninstallation¶
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps
- Search for "Gremia Shell"
- Click Uninstall
The uninstaller removes all application files. User data (manifests, credentials) stored in %APPDATA%\io.gremia.shell is preserved. Delete that folder manually to remove all traces.
Troubleshooting¶
App does not start¶
Ensure WebView2 is installed:
Get-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\{F3017226-FE2A-4295-8BEB-13D6E2756820}" -Name pv
If the command returns no output, install WebView2 manually.
Connection errors¶
Verify network connectivity:
If blocked, check your corporate firewall or proxy settings. The Shell supports HTTPS proxies configured via the HTTPS_PROXY environment variable.
Certificate errors¶
If you see "certificate expired" or "mTLS handshake failed":
- Open Settings > Security > Certificates
- Click Force Renew to request a new 24-hour certificate
- Restart the tunnel connection
